What are some really good organization tips for my small house?

I am a married mother of 4 children. I also run a home day care in which I care for 4 more children. I have a house that is approximately 1150 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, living room, dining room, small kitchen, small entryway, and full basement, and attic. I was good at organizing when I only had 3 kids and now I just can’t figure out where to keep everything. I have craft cabinets for the day care and I have a couple toy boxes and drawers for the toys. I have some small totes under 2 of my kids beds with toys in them, but I still have stuff that has no place. I also have a desk and 2 small file cabinets in my dining room that are pretty much full of my day care and family files. I am just at a loss as to what to do now. Can someone please help me?

It looks fairly old, has two small drawers on top and one large one on bottom. There were three metal pieces laying in the bottom drawer, but they don’t seem to attach anywhere in order to support hanging files.

How can I declutter my desk?

I live in a 2 person dorm (in college) and I am trying to get a good, clean workspace for me to use strictly for homework and studying. The only problem is excess clutter. I have a lot of needless junk that I can’t find other spots for. On my desk, I have a lamp, clock, a small organizer with pens and pencils. I have a laptop so that saves some space. But I have wires for everything to charge. I have 3 drawers with general items in them, along with one for my college books.

I want to know where I can put all the other junk on my desk, and how do I keep it clean and organized?

Can someone (who has purchased Bush office furniture) tell me what you think of the quality and value?

I am looking for an inexpensive computer desk (and hutch) for my home office. I want something attractive, of course, but I don’t want it to fall apart or give me the frustrations that I have with my current desk- such as jamming drawers. Bush seems to have fairly attractive designs (from what I see online), but I was wondering about the quality. If you have any recommendations for an attractive, inexpensive desk/hutch with decent quality- let me know!

Where can I find a file cabinet with…?

I’m looking for a file cabinet to fit under my desk. I’m having a really hard time finding one that is shorter than 22 inches. I would love to have one big drawer for hanging files (letter) and then one or two smaller drawers. Any ideas?

Whats a good alternative to a filing cabinet?

My apt is packed with furniture, plus 2 small desks (w/ out drawers) for 2 diff. computers. No room for a filing cabinet, not even a small one. I put all the important documents in the plastic drawer cabinets I have stuffed in my only closet. I’ve been using a shoe box lately, but um…ya I needa try somethin else…
maybe something that I can hang on a wall? not too expensive…

How can I open a locked metal file cabinet for which I don't have a key?

There’s a small, three drawer file metal file cabinet here at work and we don’t have the key for it. Somehow, the bottom drawer opens, but the top two drawers are locked. It’s a new office and we never got the key for this particular cabinet… we’re assuming it’s long gone at this point.

We’ve been trying to pick the lock open with a paperclip but it hasn’t worked.

Is there any other way, besides calling a locksmith, to get the file cabinet unlocked so we can use it?
